2. Accessing the website and hosting

To deliver the website and requested files to your browser, the serving system needs to process data including your IP address and the requested URL. Depending on the server configuration, it may also process the date and time, HTTP status, volume of data transferred, and details of your browser and operating system.

The purpose is to deliver the website and provide it securely. The legal basis is Article 6(1)(f) GDPR; the legitimate interest is to provide a functional and secure information service.

Web and email hosting are provided through GMX, a service of 1&1 Mail & Media GmbH, Karlsruhe branch, Brauerstr. 48, 76135 Karlsruhe, Germany. GMX identifies IONOS SE as a service provider for its webspace hosting. Further information: GMX privacy information (German) ↗.

The hosting provider may log technical request data to deliver the website, detect faults and prevent attacks. A confirmed description of server locations, logged data, retention periods and any transfers outside the European Economic Area for this webspace is not yet available. These details need to be confirmed with the provider and added here.

3. Cookies and browser storage

This website sets no cookies, uses neither Local Storage nor Session Storage, and embeds no external advertising or analytics services. It creates no usage profiles. The language switch and slide viewer do not store preferences on your device. No cookie consent banner is used for these functions.

4. Fonts, images and downloads

Text is displayed using system fonts already installed on your device. Images, scripts, stylesheets and downloads are served from the same website. No Google Fonts, external script libraries, or embedded video or social media services are loaded. For downloads, the server processes the same types of technical access data as for a page visit.

Private download counter for Kassandra Bulletin

Requests via the Bulletin download links are counted separately for the A5 reading edition and the print edition, provided the private server counter has been configured. Only the two totals, their combined total and the start of counting are stored. The counter stores no IP addresses, individual request times, browser information or visitor identifiers and sets no cookies. Only the operator can access the statistics through their protected hosting account.

The purpose is to assess demand for the two editions. No personal usage profiles are created. The aggregate totals are maintained for this purpose; the counter does not create an additional log of personal request data. Technical processing for delivery and any hosting logs are described in section 2 above. Repeated requests and bots may be included; these are request counts, not people or confirmed completed downloads.

5. External links and sharing

External websites, including Canva, Amazon, Apple Books, Science and the German Environment Agency, are only accessed when you follow a link. Those providers process data under their own privacy notices. This website sends no referrer through those links. It does not use automatic previews or embedded content.

The “Copy the website link” function writes the public website address to your clipboard only after you click. It does not send data to social networks. Any sharing through other applications is carried out by you outside this website. The language selector opens the selected language version without setting cookies or saving your preference in browser storage.

6. Contact by email

If you send an email, your email address, message and any additional information you provide will be processed to handle your enquiry. Article 6(1)(f) GDPR may provide the legal basis; the legitimate interest is to respond to the enquiry. For enquiries relating to a contract, Article 6(1)(b) GDPR may apply.

We use GMX to receive and handle email (provider details in section 2). We delete enquiries once they have been resolved, unless legal retention duties or legitimate reasons require further storage. Information about processing by GMX is available in its privacy information linked above.

7. Your rights

Where the relevant legal conditions are met, you have the right of access (Article 15), rectification (Article 16), erasure (Article 17), restriction of processing (Article 18) and data portability (Article 20 GDPR). If processing is based on your consent, you may withdraw it with effect for the future.

Right to object: Where data is processed under Article 6(1)(f) GDPR, you may object under Article 21 GDPR on grounds relating to your particular situation. Please use the contact details above.

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority, in particular in the Member State of your habitual residence, place of work or the alleged infringement (Article 77 GDPR).

8. Providing data and automated decisions

No registration is required to use this website for information. Transmission of an IP address is technically necessary to access a website. This website does not carry out automated decision-making or profiling.
